Africa: Malawi

TB Control in Southern Malawi - Due to a high prevalence of HIV infection, Malawi is facing a rapidly increasing rate of tuberculosis, along with low treatment success rates and high mortality rates in TB patients. Working in close partnership with the National TB Control Programme, Project HOPE is addressing TB control and TB-HIV co-infection in the Mulanje and Phalombe Districts and expects to benefit over 383,000 people by strengthening TB services, increasing early care-seeking behaviour at the community level, improving quality diagnosis and case management of TB and TB-HIV co-infection cases among healthcare workers, and improving the capacity of the Regional and District TB offices to manage TB and TB-HIV co-infection.
