Munsieville, a town located in the West Rand district, on the outskirts of Johannesburg was chosen as here, almost 11,000 orphans and other vulnerable children are living in extreme poverty. HIV/AIDS is rife, along with TB and other diseases, there are no sanitation facilities and violent crime is high.
The Thoughtful Path: Munsieville, re-evaluates the care and support of orphaned and other vulnerable children (OOVC) working with international and local partners to develop a ‘model of excellence’.
This ten year programme aims to tackle the problems of extreme poverty, disease and crime by working with a growing number of community based organisations (CBOs). Project HOPE UK is already working with 20 CBOs, through seven integrated service hubs that help to identify and support the individual needs of the OOVC.
